My Arts Vision for Santa Ana
By Sandra "Pocha" Peña
I envision a City known for it's Creative Vitality, a place where game developers and tech entrepeneurs flock to launch start-ups and filmmakers come to shoot on-location drawn by our historic downtown and channeling hundreds of thousands of dollars into City coffers & local business. I see marginalized kids activated by the Arts (thru school art programs, youth art projects and afterschool enrichment classes) to believe in themselves and become inspired to excel in academics. I see high-achieving kids become well-rounded citizens who appreciate all cultures and cultivate Creative (Abstract) Thinking which will give them a competitive edge in any field they pursue.

The Santa Ana City Council has authorized the formation of an Arts and Culture Commission, merging the efforts of United Artists of Santa Ana with the leadership of new City Manager David Cavazos. The Council will vote to approve the new commission on Dec. 9! Come out and be present for this historic event! UASA has been meeting with Santa Ana Council members, the Mayor and staff for more than a year to advocate for an arts commission and the economic benefits of a strong arts infrastructure.
